Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro: A Summary of His Life and Career
Early Life and Education
Joshua David Shapiro was born on June 20, 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Abington Senior High School and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
Political Career
Shapiro's political career began in 2004 when he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He served in the House for eight years, where he chaired the Appropriations Committee. In 2016, he was elected Attorney General of Pennsylvania. As Attorney General, Shapiro has taken on big banks, insurance companies, and drug manufacturers.
In 2022, Shapiro was elected Governor of Pennsylvania. He is the first Democrat to hold the office in over a decade.
Policy Agenda
As Governor, Shapiro has laid out a commonsense agenda that focuses on the following priorities: education, healthcare, the economy, and climate change. He has also pledged to work to make Pennsylvania a more just and equitable state.
Personal Life
Shapiro is married to Lori Shapiro and they have two children. He is a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania.
