Celine Dion Details Her First Symptoms of Stiff Person Syndrome

Over 10 Years Before Diagnosis

Renowned singer Celine Dion has bravely shared details of her first symptoms of stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder, more than 10 years before she was officially diagnosed. In a recent interview, the 54-year-old star opened up about the debilitating condition, which she has been battling for years.

Common Symptoms of Stiff Person Syndrome

Dion recalled experiencing stiffness in her legs and feet as early as her 40s. She noticed difficulty walking and dancing, activities that had always brought her joy. Over time, the symptoms worsened, leading to muscle spasms, rigidity, and unexplained pain.

Stiff-person syndrome, as defined by the Stiff Person Syndrome Foundation, is a rare autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system. Symptoms may include muscle stiffness, rigidity, and painful spasms that can be triggered by physical contact or emotional stress.
